Research Interests:

Digital pathology, artificial intelligence and machine learning, comparative pathology, neuropathology

Rebeca Scalco earned her Veterinary and Master's degrees at the University of Pelotas, Brazil. Following her graduation, Rebeca gained valuable experience as a clinician in large equine operations across Argentina, the UAE, and the USA. Transitioning to the research domain, she spent two years as a research fellow at the Veterinary School at UC Davis, focusing on comparative neurology and developing animal models of diseases. In 2023, Rebeca joined the laboratory of Dr. Brittany Dugger at the UC Davis Alzheimer Disease Research Center. There, her research was primarily centered around investigating heterogeneity within neurodegenerative diseases and implementing high-throughput digital quantification techniques to analyze neurodegeneration-related pathology.

Driven by a passion for data science and health research, Rebeca has a keen interest in neuroscience and neuropathology. Her skill set encompasses robust proficiency in project management, biospecimen processing (both animal and human), data analysis, and academic writing.

Currently pursuing her PhD and serving as a first-year veterinary pathology resident at the Institute for Animal Pathology, Bern University in Switzerland, Rebeca will develop projects dedicated to developing scalable workflows for deeper phenotyping of tumors in domestic and laboratory animals.
